Photographs of Hayden's Family Burial Plot Paintings of Hayden's Family Farm
History of the Farm Ebenezer Herrick owned the farm and died here in 1842. He had bought it in 1795 from Andrew Phillips. After Herrick died the farm passed to his grand daughter, who was Merrill Mason's second wife, and thence to their son, also named Meerrill Mason. My grandparents bought the farm from that Merrill Mason. In 1802-1807 Herrick was the leader of the Methodist Church here and moved the services to this farm. A Nathaniel Furber was supposed to have been the first to manufacture brown earthenware in the town; his shop was on this farm. Craig Brown did a small dig with kids from the Wells Memorial School a few years ago but didn't find much of anything. -- Nancy Hayden |
