Final Essay- The Westward Movement and
Those Left Behind
In 1873, Andrew Warren delivered and address at the
centennial celebration in Jaffrey, NH, and he delivered a belated eulogy to his
sister, Abiah Warren Hiller, in which he said, "...Her first thought
was ought it to be done, if so, she did it next. Would there were more such women in the
world. She left a bright example for her daughters and all young ladies to
follow. May they be able to walk in her
footsteps."
Based upon
your knowledge of Abiah Warren Hiller and other women left alone, describe
three personal qualities which enabled them to overcome adversity and to
achieve success. Provide evidence by
referring to specific events found in their stories. You will need an
introduction, three supporting paragraphs, and a strong concluding paragraph.
